Firefox FTP When updating a website there is often a requirement to edit or add files. You can do this from your control panel or most people use an FTP program which simplifies the whole process.

Up until recently I used SmartFTP which has served me well.

Over at Searchified.com I found a post about a Firefox FTP Add-on. It works just like any other FTP program just that its in the browser and more convenient to use.

When choosing a web host its almost impossible to separate the fact from the fiction in terms of the quality of the services offered. It is especially hard to determine the most reliable web hosting service

There are many good articles about what to look for in a new host, but very little in the way of hard cold comparisons of actual performance.

We have hosting from three hosts, all selected after following the usual advice to determine the best option for our circumstances (entry level hosting).

The three host option was chosen to ensure:

  • If one host went down our whole business was not affected
  • To improve SERPs by interlinking from different IP blocks
  • To gain some experience of the performance of different hosts

To provide further robustness the last hosting selected was a Hostagtor Reseller plan. This plan was selected because it allows you to setup multiple accounts on one host. If one account needs to be disabled by the hosting supplier (Digg etc) then other accounts are not effected. Contrast this with single account plans which are cheaper but would result in all sites on that host being disabled.

One of the keys to success on the internet or in any bricks and mortar business is to get your cash-flow right. By right, I mean make sure income is higher than expenses from the first month.

So when you start an internet business and irrespective of your means, work on the basis you have little money.

There is a good reason to start this way. It prevents you buying a program here, an ebook there and pretty soon you will have “invested” a couple of hundred or even a thousand dollars. The problem is, there will be no certainty that there will be return on this investment. (And if your like me when I started, there won’t be any return !)
