Find Authority Sites Fast
While Stumbling the other day I found a webmaster tool called Touchgraph.
This little application shows linkages between authority sites for any given keyword. I’ve tried a couple of websites which do the same thing but most just present results in a tabular form. This one draws a picture which demonstrates the connections in a way I haven’t seem presented before.
In the words of its makers:
The TouchGraph Google Browser reveals the network of connectivity between websites, as reported by Google’s database of related sites.
What is unique is that its done in such an easy to understand graphical form. I’ve spend hours looking at a whole bunch of keywords relating to home business and making money.
In the full sized version you can clearly see how the John Chow Dot Com cluster links to the Problogger cluster which in turn is connected to three other important clusters. It looks like while John has got to the top by volume, Darren has achieved much the same rating by obtaining links from some key sites like Wikipedia, Bidvertiser and about.com
Apart from being really interesting (I should get out more often !) and pretty to look at, does it serve any real purpose?
I think the answer to this is yes.
If your looking to dominate a niche, one way is to ensure you have links from all the key authority websites. Or if you cant do that, get links from all the important sites which link into the authority sites.
This tool tells you at a glance, who the authority sites are and who are the key sites that link into them.
Here’s the link to the site – Let me know what you think of it.

I love Touchgraph. It’s been around for a few years but I had almost forgotten how powerful the application was until you reminded me. It also looks like it’s had a major face-lift since the last time I saw it.
Aloha,
Dave.
This is a great little tool! Thanks for the tip :D
Definitely a cool tool.
Too bad that Google doesn’t regularly update the related sites db, but that’s just a question of time :)
Touchgraph — yet another genius tool brought to us by Google. I’ve used it a few times before and it never ceases to amuse me (I should get out of the office more often, too!).
Nice find Brian.
I gave it a swirl and results are interesting.
It took a while to load, but manipulation was quite fast.
Thanks for the tip.
