Get on the Move with Advertising
I received this article today from Diego Norte and thought you might like to read it also.
There are lots of ways to advertise your home based business and this offline method is cheap and easy to do.
Theres the article:
There are many ways to advertise your business. You can buy ads on the internet, post ads on social networking sites, or even buy ads in phonebooks or newspapers. But one of the cheapest and one guaranteed to bring traffic to your site is window markers. If it brings in at least one customer, it’s worth it. Take any advertising opportunity when it’s available. People may even ask you about it when you are getting into your vehicle. Then you have the opportunity for more interpersonal contact that generates the best business.
Window markers are cheap and can be found at any discount store. They come in a variety of colors. Some are even waterproof, but will come off with regular window cleaner. There are a variety of websites that sell these types of window markers.
You simply write the web address on a window of your automobile. That’s it! People will see it when they are behind you at a red light or driving down the road. Out of curiosity they will go to the website when they get home to see what it was about.
The only downfall to this type of advertising, is your company website. Is it short enough for a person to remember it until they get home. Is it catchy enough to bring their attention. If at least one of those answers is yes, then this advertising is for you.
People generally use the markers as a way to show support for a team or when people get married, but it is a great effective way to generate traffic. If the person does not need your goods or services, they probably know someone who does. They will refer them to your website.
Nothing beats the active advertising, like going out and talking to people to get your name out there. Getting out into the public. However, any form of advertising is helpful.
Unlike Billboards, where a driver can only see the ad for a few passing seconds or radio ads where we all change the station, the website is there on the eye level of the driver behind you. They will see your website for as long as they are behind you. If you travel the same routes everyday, then repeated exposure to your ad also, increases the likelihood that they will visit your site.
Mobile advertising is on the rise, so take the first steps in becoming part of this advertising movement. Start simple and inexpensive with the window markers. If this medium seems to work for you, then move on to a magnetic sign or window decals. If those work, move onto bigger and better things, such as auto wraps. Let your vehicle do your work. People will be talking about the car that has the huge advertisement on it. People will ask you about it when you are out doing your everyday errands.
Always ask the customer how they heard about your business.
Be prepared with business cards when they stop and ask you about your business.
Thanks Diego

I think making a comical bumper sticker that doesn’t clearly define what you do but is obviously a promotional item for your company would get a high ROI. Just a thought.
Window markers are great an especially if you don’t mind talking to people but you’ll need to be prepared as you’ll only have that one chance to make a first impression so it has to be powerful.
What a great idea.
I didn’t know window markers existed. This will be a handy ad campaign which will help advertise my brand.
Any way to get your company webiste across can only be good for your business. Recently I heard that someone had scribbled their website address on tens of thousands of currency notes in operation in London. I don’ t exactly know how many notes were used or this campaign was run. All I know that apparently it ended up generating 1 million or so hits for the website which of course crashed.
There’s certainly no harm in trying out window markers but it’s not something to rely on. Unless you design a very catchy or clever sticky then it’ll probably just bring in a couple of customers over time. It is certainly cheap and easy to try though.
I like the idea of writing your web site domain on the currency. The number of people it passes through is staggering. Too bad it’s illegal. The bumper sticker idea sounds like it might make for good advertising as well. Of course the easiest and most reliable method is to simply by targeted advertising.
Yes I believe using window markers is a good strategy. One of the locals here had a website that works like ebay. The guy just placed the marker at the back of his car. Now, he’s site is doing good. Besides, he had a good website name that is not hard to remember. Now people go to this website to buy potential buyers and sellers. However, the challenge is how to make it catchy. For sure when its flashy, people will remember it even without writing down the site.
Bumper stickers work great for local websites.
It really depends on your business and if you are targeting a local or national area. “Beating the bushes” and word of mouth are the best ways to promote a local business. Please don’t forget your local Craigs List as it is a powerful tool to use locally. On the national level nothing beats the Internet!
I have big success with a frame on my car license plates. Just remember to write what does the url describe – your chances of visit will improve!
Yeah, i can second the window marker idea. I use that one now and from what I can tell it works pretty good. At least for local stuff.
I don’t agree with that article at all. I just can’t imagine people obsessing over a website name written on a car enough to actualy get home and check it out. Maybe the’ll just get familiar with the name and when the see it again shile surfing the interbet they might think “wait a minute, I know this name from somewhere, let’s see what’s that all about”.
One of the neatest forms of advertising I’ve seen in a long time is on bathroom paper towels. I saw this in Germany last year and was really impressed.
What a great idea this is!
This can work very well if you have a humor and funny website.
Loving this blog!
