There are many home based business opportunities to choose from. The question is how do you pick the one which is best for you ?

Here are a few questions you should ask to help you on your way:

Is this a real opportunity ?
The market abounds with good sales pitches for very mediocre products.

Try to cut through the hype by searching forums for comments about the opportunity.

Doing a Google search for the product & adding the word “scam” to the end will show up most of the poorer performing options.

By looking through forums try to locate a few people who have been working the opportunity for 6 months or more. If they are making money and comfortable with the product then you are probably onto a good thing.

Is this something I can do ?
It’s a lot harder to start a business in an area you know nothing about as opposed to one which you have had previous experience. Make sure your current skills have some match to those of the prospective business.

If you are considering Internet marketing with little or no computer skills it can be done but will be a lot harder if you do not have some sort of technical background.

Is this something I want to do ?
Whatever you settle upon as you business, you will spend many hours working at it. There will most probably a reasonable period of hard work for very little results.

For this reason you really need to enjoy what you are going to be doing. As the enjoyment will give you the staying power to ride out the tough times.

Do I have the money to do it ?
You should prepare a business plan, no matter how small. This will allow you to set some goals. These are important on two counts – to keep you focused on going forward and growing your business once it is established, and secondly if things just don’t work out it will give you a walk away position, so you don’t over-commit funds which are required for other parts of your life.
