I have used Squidoo previously and my personal opinion is that it is not very effective. Yes to some extent this depends on the niches you are targeting and the quality of your content but I would rather invest the time in my blog as i feel the rewards that can be earnt from this far outwiegh the small amount of revenue you can get from a Squidoo lens.

Wow. I was aware of Squidoo as a source of backlinks, but didn’t realize it could actually be a source of real income on its own. Thanks for the useful links to Captain Squid.

I started using Squidoo a few months back. It is quite easy to use and creating a lense is quick and can be done in a few minutes. I have created 3 lenses so far and my main purpose is to first improve teir page rank and hopefully use it to generate viewer-ship. I have received some readers so far with minimal effort. However like with any other blog or web page, some commitment is required if you want to make the full use of Suidoo. All in all I find squidoo pags to be indexed quite easily by search engines. However some link building will be required for your Squidoo lense before yu can to achieve a first page rank.

squidoo has its positives and negatives. At best I guess squidoo should be used to drive traffic to yourself. Like “FILE”mentioned up there that if one builds one’s own site it makes more sense.

However besides the part of ad revenue, as a composite model to get traffic and also some petty sales squidoo could be quite handy

Squidoo can be used to bring back traffic to a website but I have also notice something else. I have found some very very good articles and reviews on products with a nice little affiliate link to go with it. If the link is clicked and converted into a sale or lead, the person that had posted the Squidoo lens makes a little earner from it. So as well as bringing traffic back to your site, it can also be used to directly earn money.

I have a decent Squidoo lense about employment topics, but I never gave serious thoughts about monetizing it. The reason is this – Squidoo will split the ad revenue with you and keep a big share. Instead, if you build your own site (which wouldn’t cost much anyway) you can keep all the profits.

Additionally, you are limited to Sqidoo plugins and cannot customize beyond a point.

Apparent advantage with Sqidoo is of course the visibility to search engines and it does a decent job drawing visitors. But, If you make a decent effort to market your site, you can keep all the profits.

I personally hate squidoo but it is definitely a good way of generating interest in what you are doing from what I hear. Like Custom Software Development said, it takes a lot of work to make it work I guess.

I am not really sure about squidoo; I have tried my hands at it, I am not a bad content creator, but it’s not easy to make money ‘from’ the lenses. I can only get some traffic that I also got from normal article directories.

For me squidoo is just another (though better) article directory requiring unique content (much like ezinearticles). Overall, I think squidoo is hyped :)
