This post is about John Chows’ money making blog.

John is a well known and successful internet marketer who began a blog back in December 2005.

Prior to that, John was partner in a print shop before taking a change of direction. In April 1999 he started a technology site call The TechZone. Techzone had over 10,000 pages and got over 200,000 page views per day by 2005.

John recently provided an update on progress with his blog. The results give some insight as to what can be achieved and what the potential is for this type of home business.

In summary the blog made just under $3,500 in January. Revenue broken down as follows:

  • Direct Ad Sales: $750.00
  • Text Links Ads: $621.68
  • Affiliate Sales: $545.00
  • Google AdSense: $536.58
  • Vibrant IntelliTXT: $478.18
  • TTZ Media: $183.54
  • FeedBurner Ads: $175.68
  • ReviewMe: $150.00
  • Grand Total: $3,440.66

Blog traffic for January was 255,574 page views from 133,871 unique visitors.

Johns post is worth reading. He outlines recent changes which have included selling links and banners. This move is a deliberate one to diversify the revenue stream, ensuring there is not too much reliance on any one source of income.

Something that isn’t mentioned in his post. John is able to generate a huge amount of traffic to his blog. While this doesn’t seem to be high converting, traffic is a key indicator of what banner and text links are worth.

Once you get your traffic high enough then you can generate a significant, steady income from sales of advertising space. This is a better “quality” income than Adsense where the revenue fluctuates by the day and there is the ever present threat of loss of account.
