Toy Rental
Toy Rental home business. You can create a business from everyday items at home.
Don’t believe me -then pick a topic - lets say toys. Youv’e got lots, why not rent them out. No money in it you say. Well maybe, maybe not.
This post is about Lori Pope. She has infant twin sons and bought the best toys for them over the internet.
Then she had an idea. Why not rent them out to other moms.
Renting hand bags, video games and movies is pretty common why not toys ?
This idea grew into a website called Baby Plays. Its customers browse the site for over 200 toys for newborns through to preschoolers. A list of desired toys is built and Pope’s staff ship them to the young ones.
This is a business which started with 10 customers, sending out toys from a spare office and grew to where it is today with about 200 customers nationwide.
Lori has had to throw some money at the business to get it up an running but she expects it to be profitable this year.
This is a great story. Not for the money she is making and the business that has been built-up. But for Lori’s foresight to use the knowledge and skill she already has as a mom, turning a common home item into a profitable business.

Great idea. If it also has an affiliate program, then it would be compelling to a lot of us. :)

I checked out the website, and it was very interesting. It reminded me of a website I thought about using once - a way to rent out purses! There were all types of designer and luxury purses that worked a little like netflix. It was very cool - as a purse lover, I seem to only wear a purse a month at a time and then move on - this way I could spend less money and get more purses!

Even though it is a local bound, I like this business concept idea. No or almost no money required to invest out of pocket with this business to be able to start. Great post. Thank for sharing. - Javier.

Great for her that she turned would-be yard sale items into a thriving business!

It’s certainly a good idea, it’d be a great way of saving money on toys that children often outgrow or get bored with quickly anyway. Although I do have to wonder about the condition your average child leaves their toys in - they say on the site that they are sanitised, but what about, for example, bite marks? And what if your child becomes hopelessly attached to the toy, can you buy them for good?

What an original idea. I am one of those who keep things because I can not throw something perfectly good out. Many of my daughters things are taken to the consignment shop, but this really is a great way to get use out of toys in good condition over and over.

I’ve also heard of online places where you can swap books - trade the books your kids are tired of for new ones. Swapping used stuff is so great because kids get tired of their stuff so fast.

That’s a great idea - swapping toys would be a great thing to do with your friends and neighbors. That won’t make you any money, but it will save some!
