As the world population grows and becomes more prosperous, the consumption of supplements to improve health and extend life are increasing. This is especially so in countries where the population is aging.
This produces a growing market of people with the means to purchase products which will make them feel better. In turn there is a growing opportunity to satisfy this market need.
Many companies target this market. Xango, Noni and Herbal Life are examples. Each has a different business model each has different strengths and weaknesses.
Here are some suggestions for picking the right product and company for you:
- Find a product you will use for yourself. This will ensure you product knowledge is strong and since distributors get product a wholesales prices may even save you a few dollars on product you would buy anyway.
- Try to find some connection between the products you already promote and your health and wellness product. It will be beneficial if you can lever off your existing client base. For example if your client base is young 20 year olds there probably isn’t much leverage off selecting a product that targets the over 60′s.
- Its ideal if your product is consumable – gives repeat business.
- Decide very early of if you want to focus very hard on on product or if you’d prefer to try a number to see what sells. This will have some bearing on the company you choose to work with
- Ensure the company provides on line (banners,websites etc) fulfilment as well as off line. If there is a demand for the product there will be opportunities in both mediums and you will profit from both.
- Make sure you are comfortable with the company you will be promoting. To be successful you will need to spend many hours over an extended period promoting the company as well as the product. Some people don’t feel compfortable with MLM. MLM is a valid sales model which when done right can be very profitable. However if you are not comfortable with this approach, ensure you pick an non-MLM company.
The marketing gurus will tell you to look for opportunites in large growing markets, with consumable products, a business model with no inventory and clean delivery lines. The supplements market fits all the criteria. There are good products and there is good demand. It’s just a matter of finding what is right for you and putting in the time to make it successful.
